Privacy policy

This blog is a private project. I keep the data I collect from readers to a minimum. Here's what I collect and why.

Who is responsible

Alyssa Merkt, Winterthur, Switzerland
kontakt@merkt.cat

Newsletter

If you sign up for the newsletter, I store your email address along with the time of sign-up and confirmation. I don't ask for anything else.

Sign-up uses a confirmation step: after submitting the form you'll receive an email with a link. You're only added to the list once you click that link. This makes sure nobody can add someone else's address.

Addresses are managed with Keila, which I run on my own server. For the technical delivery of the emails I use Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, France). Brevo processes the recipient address and delivery information on my behalf.

The newsletter includes click tracking: links are redirected via a subdomain of my own so I can see whether a message was opened or a link clicked. I use this only to see whether what I write is actually being read.

Your address stays on file until you unsubscribe. You can do that at any time via the link at the bottom of every message, no reason needed. The address is then deleted.

To protect against automated sign-ups, the form includes a captcha from hCaptcha (Intuition Machines, Inc., USA). Technical data such as your IP address is transmitted to that provider in the process.

Statistics

For visitor statistics I use Plausible Analytics, which I also run myself. Plausible sets no cookies, builds no profiles and stores no IP addresses. Only anonymous information is collected, such as the page visited, the referring page, approximate region and device type.

Server logs

Visiting this site technically produces log data, such as IP address, timestamp and the address requested. This serves operation and security and is deleted after a short time.

Your rights

Under Swiss data protection law you have the right to request information about the data stored about you, and to have it corrected or deleted. Just write to kontakt@merkt.cat.

If you are resident in the EU, you additionally have the rights set out in the GDPR. An email to the same address is enough for those too.

Changes

If something about my setup changes, I'll update this page. The current date is below.
